Consider the following statements about Privilege Motion:
- Prior consent of presiding officer of the House is mandatory to introduce privilege motion
- If the motion is passed unanimously in the House then it leads to resignation of the government
Which of the above statements is/are correct?
Second statement is incorrect because there is no such provision. If privilege motion is passed unanimously then the decision rests with the presiding officer of the respective House. The presiding officer may suspend the accused or may refer the matter to the privilege committee to examine.
